Patient Rights & Responsibilities

At Riverview Mental Hospital, we are committed to maintaining a structured, respectful, and therapeutic environment for every resident entrusted to our care. Patients are afforded the following rights under hospital policy and applicable county regulations.

Patient Rights

All admitted patients have the right to:

  • Receive humane treatment in a secure medical environment

  • Participate in prescribed therapeutic programs

  • Receive meals, medication, and supervised recreation according to hospital schedules

  • Submit written concerns to hospital administration for review

  • Communicate with approved family members during designated correspondence periods

  • Practice approved religious observances under staff supervision

  • Petition for discharge subject to psychiatric evaluation and administrative review

To ensure patient wellbeing and institutional safety, certain rights may be temporarily suspended during periods of heightened instability, noncompliance, or investigatory observation.

Patient Responsibilities

Residents of Riverview are expected to:

  • Cooperate fully with attending physicians and hospital staff

  • Participate honestly in evaluations and treatment sessions

  • Refrain from disruptive speech, agitation, or the spread of harmful delusions among other patients

  • Respect curfews, medication schedules, and restricted areas of the hospital

  • Avoid maintaining unauthorized written records of treatment or hospital operations

  • Report unusual thoughts, memories, or suspicions to supervisory staff immediately

Failure to comply with hospital standards may result in corrective observation measures, restricted privileges, or transfer to secured treatment wards.

Confidentiality Notice

For the protection of patient privacy and the reputation of their families, Riverview maintains strict confidentiality regarding all admissions, evaluations, and long-term residency records. Requests for information may be denied at the discretion of hospital administrators.

Riverview Mental Hospital reserves the right to withhold materials deemed distressing, inflammatory, or counterproductive to recovery.

Residential Care Guidelines

Patients admitted to Riverview Mental Hospital are expected to follow all facility regulations designed to preserve order, security, and therapeutic stability throughout the campus. Families and visitors are encouraged to review the following policies carefully prior to arrival.

Visitors are received Wednesday and Saturday, 2–4 p.m. All visitors must present identification at the admissions desk. No unscheduled visits are permitted.

Riverview accepts most major insurance plans. A benefits verification is completed prior to admission. A billing representative is available to discuss coverage and any out-of-pocket obligations.

Patients may bring clothing, toiletries, and approved reading material. All items are inventoried at intake. Electronic devices, sharp objects, and any prescription and non-prescription medications are held in secure storage.
